Acro Mode—also known as Rate Mode or Manual Mode—is the primary flight mode for experienced FPV drone pilots, especially those interested in freestyle flying and racing. In Acro Mode, the drone does not self-level or correct its orientation when the control sticks are released; instead, it maintains its current attitude and requires the pilot to make all adjustments manually. The sticks control the angular velocity of the drone: pushing a stick causes the drone to rotate at a constant rate around the corresponding axis, and the drone will continue rotating as long as the stick is held in that position. To return to level flight, the pilot must actively move the stick in the opposite direction.
This mode provides full manual control, allowing for advanced maneuvers such as flips, rolls, power loops, and other acrobatics, making it the “ultimate flight mode” for FPV flying. Because there is no stabilization assistance, Acro Mode is challenging to master and not recommended for beginners, but it offers the smoothest, most precise, and most natural control once learned. Most experienced pilots fly exclusively in Acro Mode for its responsiveness and the freedom it provides to perform complex tricks and stunts.
